Hone your guitar skills with Roy & David

Roy Book Binder and David Hamburger have both spent decades unraveling the mysteries of fingerstyle guitar for students both far-flung and in person. This workshop is a chance to learn new licks and techniques from the complementary perspectives of two master teachers.

Roy Book Binder

"In this workshop, I will be teaching you some of the licks and tricks that I’ve acquired over the years from various traditional players of the blues. I will show you various chord variations that will help make your playing more interesting and exciting to you as well as to those who may listen to what you were doing.

"I did try to emulate my heroes the best I could, however not being able to play exactly like them. Im often asked how I developed the unique sound that I have. Both JJ Cale and John Hartford told me when they reached the limit of their talent, they ended up with their own style and sound.

"I don’t consider myself to be a great guitar player, and can’t teach you to be one. But I will be able to teach you how to create the illusion that you are pretty damn good. I’m looking forward to the workshop and to meeting you, fellas and gals."

"The world is awash in tab and videos – much of it mine, for better or worse – so a live workshop like this should be your chance to ask as many questions as possible, and see, up close and in the room, just how it's really done – from right hand techniques to chord shapes to everything in between.

"So bring your questions about where you get stuck playing fingerstyle guitar. I'll bring my favorite methods for getting your thumb and fingers organized, memorizing songs and starting to improvise.

"With any luck, between you, me and Roy, you'll leave with some concrete ideas for how to start playing better –  plus some excellent stories from Roy, of course."

Roy Book Binder has been rambling around the world for the past forty-five years, criss-crossing the US and appearing at festivals throughout Canada & Europe. He has traveled with the legendary Rev. Gary Davis, toured with Bonnie Raitt, and was a long-time favorite at Jorma Kaukonen's Fur Peace Ranch.
