"I freaking dig this. It explains a simple way to to practice a particular part without having to eat the whole enchilada. Some changes are tougher than others, so these break downs will help. Earth-shattering stuff here, Dude."

Dean M.
Florida

"I have had a great time with this tune and am really feeling the various improv ideas coming together (even if my fingers can't keep up with my ideas). Prior to September, I would have been stuck on the tab and just kept cycling through. A few months later I am finally feeling comfortable with a little improv! "

Bruce B.
New City, NY

"This is a great tutorial on what to do and how to do it. If you can't make me a better guitar player then I'm a lost cause :)) "

Raymond D.

"This was a masterclass. I wish I could give up the day jobs and just spend my time on here. "

Mark S.
Liverpool, U.K.

A New Tune Every Month

Steady bass, Travis picking, traditional tunes and contemporary takes on the blues form. Each month you'll have access to both a basic and advanced arrangement of a new tune, allowing you to work at your own pace and grow your repertoire while you expand your chops.

When you become a member, you also gain access to the ever-growing archive of past lessons, as well as Core Content lessons on Groove, Voicings, Music Theory and more. Past songs include "House of the Rising Sun," "Crow Jane," "Sitting On Top Of The World," "Baby Please Don't Go" and more.

Exercises and Improvisation

Each tune is accompanied by a set of concise exercises geared to helping you get the most out of each month's assignment. When there are tricky fingerings, challenging transitions or new chord voicings or licks to learn, you'll have the tools to break them down, get them under your fingers and make them a part of your playing.

Each month also includes a set of Improvisation Exercises designed to help you bridge the gap between playing memorized songs by rote and opening up your playing to a more creative, expressive approach.

Live Sessions, Private Forum

Every month concludes with an hour-long members-only live stream lesson. The first half is an organized presentation on ideas for arranging and performing the monthly song, including ideas for intros and improvising. The second half is an open Q&A and your chance to get your specific questions answered about any of the month's material.

Members also have access to a lively  ongoing private forum where they can post their work, get peer feedback and ask David specific questions about the material.

Who's David Hamburger and why should I study with him?

David Hamburger is the author of The Acoustic Guitar Fingerstyle Method, host of Truefire's Fingerstyle Blues Factory, New School Fingerstyle Blues and Fingerstyle Blues Handbook, a contributing editor to Acoustic Guitar magazine and the creator of the Fretboard Confidential Youtube channel and web site. All of which is perfectly cool, but you shouldn't study with him if you're looking for note-for-note tabs of prewar blues tunes. And you shouldn't join his membership if you want access to thousands of songs at a time.

The Fingerstyle Five is something different – an answer to the question  "what should I practice?" Each week, you'll have a specific arrangement or set of exercises to work on, designed to let you work as quickly or slowly as you need to. You'll build your skills as you go, but since each month is self-contained, there's no such thing as falling behind.

Working on one tune at a time, you'll develop a stronger, more reliable right-hand groove, grow your chord vocabulary, build your arranging skills and start transitioning from playing by rote to improvising with control and creativity.
