Learn to Write and Arrange Your Own Fingerstyle Blues Instrumentals

Do you want to create your own instrumental tunes but don't known where to start? Would you like to know how to take those cool fragments you come up with and develop them into complete-sounding tunes?

When you understand how classic 8- and 12-bar chord progressions work, coming up with chords of your own is much easier to do. And when you know how to take short, simple ideas and develop them into longer phrases, you can create new melodies for whatever groove and key you want to play in.

In this workshop, you'll learn a step-by-step process for creating your own music from scratch. Through specific, hands-on weekly assignments, you'll discover how to:
  • Create your own variations on the 12-bar and 8-bar blues forms
  • Develop your licks and melodic ideas into coherent, song-like themes
  • Use bridges, intros and endings to create variety and contrast
  • Combine stop time, shout choruses and improvisation to turn your tunes into complete arrangements
Fingerstyle Blues Composition is a live-online streaming workshop run on the Zoom platform. Each class session will be recorded and archived online for three months after the course concludes in December.
